Hathaway's BetaFLEX portable documenting calibrator uses plug-in I/O modules that give it the industry's most extensive calibration capabilities. It can calibrate just about any type of process instrument a field technician is likely to encounter.
Exclusively, through an optional BetaSmart enhancement and use of a Honeywell SCT 3000 PCMCIA card, BetaFLEX can even automatically calibrate, document, and configure Honeywell digitally enhanced (DE) protocol Smartline transmitters (specifically, ST 3000 Smart Pressure, STT 3000 Smart Temperature, and SMV 3000 Smart Multivariable models). In addition to automated operations, it can manually read and write data, perform routine calibrations, and make operating adjustments to the Honeywell transmitters, all functions that previously required a dedicated handheld configurator/communicator or portable computer.
The BetaSmart option allows the user to adjust the transmitter zero, span, URV, LRV, and curve type (where applicable), to test the internal ND and DIA converters, and to read and/or write data on the transmitter's scratch pad data area. The transmitter's diagnostic status can also be determined and acted upon.
For automated calibration operations, BetaFLEX is fully compatible with Hathaway's MasterCAL Calibration System Software and Honeywell's DocuMint documenting software. Other third party software may be available as well.
BetaFLEX works with all of Hathaway's BetaPort calibration modules. BetaPort-P pressure range modules have industry standard ±0.025% accuracy and can measure gauge, vacuum, absolute, and differential pressure (23 ranges are available from 5 psi/330 mBar up to 10,000 psi/670 Bar full scale). Other modules include the BetaPort-D2 dc current and voltage module, the BetaPort-R multicurve RJD and resistance module, the BetaPort-T multicurve thermocouple module, and the BetaPort-F frequency module. Modules include both measurement and simulation functions and are autoranging.
Users of Hathaway's BetaGauge II digital pressure gauge, which also employs BetaPort pressure and dc current/voltage calibration modules, can have their units upgraded with BetaFLEX and BetaSmart capabilities at Hathaway's Carrollton, TX manufacturing facility.

  • BetaPort-D2 do current and voltage module
Description: General purpose dc measurement and simulation by sourcing and measuring dc voltage and current. Output mode can sink and source in both voltage and current functions. When sinking voltage, unit will ramp up to 21 mA. When in mA dc output mode, unit will detect and signal an open loop condition.

  • BetaPort-F Frequency Module
Description: Measurement and sourcing of frequency signals. Output amplitude adjustable between 0.05 and 12 Volts peak-to-peak. Input mode operates with peak-to-peak voltage of 0.05 to 240 Volts. Input mode adjustable threshold of 0.01 to 1.0 Volts for noise rejection. Module provides bipolar sine and square wave outputs and zero based square wave outputs. Input mode reads both bipolar and zero-based signals.
Accuracy: ±0.01 % of reading for all ranges in both measure and simulate modes

  • BetaPort-R Multicurve RTD Module
Description: Measurement and simulation of common RID signals in 2, 3, or 4 wire modes (all specifications here are for 3 wire mode). Simulation circuit can detect pulsed excitation currents commonly found in "smart" RTD transmitters. Can use an excitation current as low as 0.1 mA.

Accuracy: For simulation of output functions, ±0.025% of resistance span for all ranges. For measurement of all input functions, ±0.025% of resistance span for all temperature ranges; ±0.5ohms  for measurement of ohms.

  • BetaPort-T Multicurve Thermocouple Module
Description: Measurement and sourcing of common thermocouple signals. In output mode, module will have a minimum drive capacity of 8 mA. In measurement mode, unit will detect and indicate an open (burnout) condition.
Accuracy: Based on a dc measurement and simulation range accuracy of ±0.01 % of the millivolt range of any curve with a minimum span of 10 mV, and a cold junction measurement accuracy of +0.1°C within the ambient temperature range of 10 to 40°C. Outside that range, the effect of ambient temperature change on cold junction temperature measurement will be less than 0.005% per °C
